You’re probably thinking…“Wow! Two blog posts in one day! What happened to every other week?” I KNOW. It’s just one of those days.
So for those of you who don’t know, Collin & I really enjoy Andrew Peterson, a storyteller/musician. And can you guess who was playing at 1st Baptist Wolffarth tonight??? Yep. That’s right. I’ve been looking forward to tonight since last October!
Andrew was playing in connection with an adoption conference being held by FBC Wolffarth, and Russell Moore (Dean, professor, pastor, and author of Adopted for Life)was the speaker. Oh how my soul needed this weekend! To think of foster care and adoption as spiritual warfare, and a fulfillment of God’s call for us to love widows and orphans… I work with this population a decent amount at my job, and often despair while helping them in their battle. To be equipped with the gospel and reminded of our adoption into the family of God makes this part of my job more doable.
This morning as we were going to the last session of the conference, and I UNEXPECTEDLY WALKED BY Andrew Peterson going to my seat. I tried to muster up a “hi” and a nice west Texas wave, but all that came out was “huuuuh…” and some movement of my hand that probably made me look like I have a intellectual impairment. I never thought in my life I would be “star-struck” (I realize thinking this about A. Peterson makes me a weirdo, but whatever). I’m just not normally that kind of girl- 20 points on the geek scale for me.
Anyhow, tonight’s concert was small, intimate, and the culmination of a very good weekend. I pretty much cried and was broken to remember the good news of Jesus the entire evening, with some laughing in between as Andrew told stories behind the songs. Can I just say that I’d love to meet his wife? I bet she’s a pretty cool chick. We also got a glimpse of Andrew’s upcoming album being released July 27th, Counting Stars, which you can buy me as a surprise gift if you want to be my best friend forever. Just kidding- we’ll have it pre-ordered… which probably gets us about 18.4 more points on the geek scale.
After the concert Collin geekishly asks, “Do you want to go meet him???” and I’m all “NO WAY. NO HOW. NUH-UH. NOT ME.” Because you know, my pride can’t take another blow as I would probably just be a stammering fool with nothing significant to say. So Collin gets in line to talk to Andrew (+10 geek points). He came away from it jittery, and communicates to me that it was basically stuttering word vomit (+36.9 geek points). We know he’s just a guy, but his work has been significant in our relationship… and we’re just geeks, OK? Collin has promised to post a list of sorts of things he had said/asked.
And no, much to the benefit of our reputations, we did not take pictures. We didn’t even think about bringing the camera. -14 geek points.
PS- Kudos to the people who traveled into barren Lubbock on pretty much the hottest weekend ever- I think it was about 107 yesterday and 100+ today.
