I am in the midst of a very exciting time in my life right now. Cassie and I just became parents to a beautiful baby girl, we are beginning our transition to move overseas and I received something in the mail yesterday.
If you are anything like me, I am sure you are wondering what could possibly compare in excitement to becoming a parent or moving overseas. Well, this is something that I didn't even know I wanted until I had it. It is an honor and a privilege. It is embossed with something that looks very official and it has my name on it!
To offer a little back-story, I must begin with my elementary school library. When I was in third and fourth grade at Murfee Elementary, I used to really enjoy looking at the pictures in these yellow magazines. I remember the fight with my classmates to find the coolest picture from the old volumes. I saw mountains for the first time in those pictures along with many other incredible things.
The love story continued into last year when some good friends had these magazines in their living room. I never thought that I would be lucky enough to own a copy of such a magazine until I received a letter in the mail offering a year-long subscription for a very reasonable price (12 issues for $12). I looked at my lovely pregnant wife and batted my eyelashes like a third grader on the toy aisle would when asking his mother for a new toy. Because my wife is awesome (I wish I had a better word than this to describe her) she said yes and so I wrote the check and stamped the envelope.
Then, two weeks later, my wife went into labor and I got distracted. I knew I would receive a reply in 4-6 weeks but to be honest, my new daughter consumed my attention. So...I forgot about my potential subscription. But yesterday, I received the order confirmation in the mail along with this:
Enter MORE EXCITEMENT. Not only was I now a subscriber to the one magazine I thought I would never own, but I was a bonified member of the National Geographic Society. What an honor to be part of such an elite fraternity.
Well, later last night I again forgot about this excitement in the midst of having to help my wife feed our very hungry newborn every hour. I am looking forward to getting our first magazine in the mail soon though :)

Awwww, I was looking for new pictures of Addy!
