project simplify

This was scheduled to post last week...? Annoying. Oh well- it's here now!

I'm reading a book about simplifying, and I'm tweaking it to fit for our life.  Generally, I'll be taking on a 20-40 minute project each day with the goal of simplifying, minimizing, and de-cluttering things in our life. As a means of accountability, I'm going to track that project here on the blog. No, I won't blog every day.  Probably that means weekly updates of 5-6 projects I've accomplished for approximately 4 weeks.  We'll see.

Why, you ask? Why in the world would I want to get rid of perfectly good stuff? First and foremost,

The things of this earth just aren't where my heart is, so I'm just not that sentimental about stuff.  I wasn't born that way, but life (and scripture) has taught me rather emphatically that STUFF ISN'T PEOPLE OR MOMENTS.  So, I'd rather live free of the burdens of stuff and have life's little nuances remind me of the people and times I've loved.  I'm not saying I don't keep anything around, I just try to weed out and prioritize.  I will say that keeping a record of life with out extra junk lying around is so much easier with technology, forever and ever amen.

Other reasons:
  1. I just HATE it when there is more stuff than I have appropriate places for.
  2. It helps us fight the lie that stuff will make us happy.
  3. Our lifestyle doesn't/won't allow for the accumulation of stuff.

So here's to Project Simplify: Foster Style.  Let's hope Collin doesn't want to strangle me in the process.
