Lubbock Summer Treasures

In my 7 years in the Hub City, I have heard mixed reviews about entertainment here. Really, some of my friends from metropolitan areas whine about it being boring and my rural friends think it's pretty hoppin'. I get that I am from somewhere smaller than Lubbock and thus biased, but I think there's plenty to do.

This summer in particular, we have been trying to make it feel like summer even though Collin & I both work full time. We've tried a few things out around the Hub City, and here are some of my favorites that we've done this summer:

1. The Apple Country Orchards in Idalou- From now until early November you can go pick your own apples. They always tell you to "pick with one hand and eat with the other." Pretty good deal if you ask me.

2. Downtown Art Market- The second Saturday of every month at 19th St. & Buddy Holly, there is magic. Think farmers market meets craft show. There's local produce providers, local artisans and crafters, face painting, house plants and more! I actually went today and got a super tasty cantelope.

3. The Texas Tech Leisure Pool- You have to be sponsored in by a student or staff member, and it can get really busy, but who can resist the lazy river??? Not me, obviously.

4. The Science Spectrum- Awesome. Geeky Omnimax movies (current features include Wolves and Storm Chasers), science exhibits, and lots of fun to be had.

5. Lubbock Memorial Aboretum- For those of you from places with more vegetation, this may be nothing spectacular. However, this is a really great place to escape the dusty flats of the South Plains area without leaving the city limits. And it's FREE.
