yard work

If you don't live in Lubbock, you might not know that it's been pretty dry. No rain from early March to August 11th kind of dry... with more than our fair share of 100+ degree temperatures. It's not been a yard work sort of summer, as nothing was really growing.

This was okay for us Fosters, as we did not own a lawn mower until yesterday. I mean, even with watering the lawn 2 times a week we barely had any green in the lawn anyhow. This weekend we had to go purchase a lawn mower after our first rain in months- an awesome rain that had may Lubbockites dancing in the streets and then running for cover with crashes of lightening. This rain last week brought on the weeds (with a little grass mixed in). We decided that because we are cheap and not uber-concerned about what the lawn looks like, we decided to try out a reel mower, aka a cylinder mower. Old school.

I think we are both happy with our choice. Not a perfect yard trim, but cheap, green, and efficient. As you can see in this picture, we live on a corner lot. Lots of traffic. I definitely tried out this mower wearing yoga pants, flip flops, and a flowery apron... drawing much more attention from the traffic than I intended!

The one thing in the yard Collin has been very dedicated to for the past month or so is the rose bushes. It's very endearing when he comes in with a vase full of home-grown roses and says, "Look! I grew them for you!" Geez, I love that guy more than I can explain.
