DIY- baby shoes

There's a baby shower at Collin's office on Friday for 4 new babies on the way. He does not work in a huge office, so it's pretty bizarre but awesome that there are so many babies at once. In an attempt to be frugal, original, thoughtful, and fair in my gift giving for the shower I went searching. I found a DIY tutorial for baby shoes made from recycled old jeans and hopped to it. I don't have a sewing machine, but there is a handy little sewing cafe (Sew What?) not far away from our house. You can rent a machine, schedule a lesson, or take a class. I rented a machine yesterday, and Maxine (the owner) was very helpful and friendly as I attempted to make baby shoes:

Not too bad, eh? I messed up a lot the first go round, and I have never loved a seam ripper more. However, round 2 was much better. I am finishing up this project on a sewing machine I picked up from Collin's mom, because borrowing a machine is ultimately cheaper than renting one. I can save my money for a class... maybe someday.
